Aikido is a traditional and practical martial art. It relies on harmonizing with the opponent and using subtle movements.

Aikido teaches self-defence through the resolution of conflict. Aikido is as much about living as it as about fighting. It is a full contact sport aiming at defensive skills, defending skills and defending actions. These skills join together with attacking movements to neutralise the attack and either throw, restrain or disarm them.

Movements in Aikido are based on the sword and staff; therefore these weapons are used during training.

Other attributes learnt are self-control, fitness, strength, fluidity of movement and coordination of breathing and movement.

Aikido is a dynamic martial art, which is both graceful and effective. It is suitable for people of all ages and sizes and is conducted by qualified and experienced practitioners of the art.

Boxing involves the development of physical fitness, self control and self esteem.

Physically, boxing teaches the students punching techniques, footwork, timing and ring craft, which improves aerobic capacity, muscle tone and eye-hand co-ordination.

Mentally, boxing teaches the students about the strengths and weaknesses and how to control them. Physical and mental development together gives self-esteem.

The PCYC provides a controlled environment in which to learn the skills of boxing for either personal development or competition.

The boxing program is utlised for many programs as it targets self control to young people with anger management issues.

Circuit

Circuit classes are a 45 minute session supervised by a qualified fitness instructor involving a rotation between weights and cardio exercises.

Cardio Boxing

Cardio Boxing uses the training principals from boxing to offer a high intensity cardio workout

Gymnastics is a sport that develops flexibility, balance and strength. It also improves co-ordination and fosters a team spirit.

In the class the children learn to use equipment such as parallel and uneven bars, beam, vault, floor and the trampoline.

The children also learn and develop routines suitable for their capability and during the year demonstrate their skills in competitions or displays.

Boys and girls between the ages of 4 - 17 are welcome

Jishu Kan is not a sport; it is a practical system of self-defense.

Jishu Kan Ryu is a martial art based on yielding techniques of Jujitsu and Judo. However, it also contains the striking and blocking techniques of kempo karate.

Jishu Kan is Japanese in origin, but is now practiced all over the world.

Classes are available for males and females from the age of 8 onwards.

Judo is an exciting unarmed combat sport that originated in Japan as a means of self-defense.

Judo is based on standing, ground grapare used. Judo is unique in teaching skills of falling without injury, which helps in other sports as well.

Judo utilizes the whole body, stressing all the energy systems and develops a high level of spatial awareness, flexibility and co-ordination.

PMAJJK

Peter Morton self defence classes involving skills taken from a mixture of Karate, Boxing, Judo and Grappling.

The Erindale PCYC runs many programs for youth at risk, schools, community groups and general public. The rockwall program provides participants with strength, confidence and the extreme sporting aspect. This program also helps to develop self confidence within people who are afraid of heights.

Shobu-Kai is an international Martial Art which teaches you the art of self-defence and discipline. The Japanese term 'Shobu-Kai' means to discipline the mind and the body and to practise the art of peace as a club. Shobu-Kai is linked to the Japanese master Sensei Fujimotto.

Shobu-Kai consists of blocks, punches and kicks. It helps you with your concentration, coordination and discipline not just for karate but also for everyday like.

Shobu-Kai range through many types of self-defence. They range from learning how to roll and practise techniques to holds and grapples. Not only does karate help you mentally but physically. Karate demands a lot from your physical ability and can guide you into getting fit.

Skating involves speed and balance and is a fantastic way to get fit whilst having fun. Through skating participants gain an excellent lower body toning and a great cardiovascular work out.

Participants can begin skating from as young as 4.

Tots' tumbling is a gymnastics based class for children between the ages of 18 months - 5 years old.

The class is set up as a circuit in which the children learn to use climbing frames, beams, the trampoline and the parallel bars.

The children learn balance, co-ordination, gross motor skills, interaction with other children and the very basics of gymnastics.

Weights

A weights and cardio room is available at both centres

Wrestling is one of the oldest Olympic sports.

It develops strength, agility, speed and confidence and is an unbeatable self-defence activity for both men and women.

Improvements in flexibility and range of motion can be gained from regular wrestling training along with a great all over body work out.

The wrestling coach Witold Rejlich was the former Commonwealth Games coach and Polish Junior coach. He has also coached Olympians and World Champions.
